Frequently Asked Questions

When do the Commission and Advisory boards have their Meetings?

  • The City Commission meets every first and third Monday of each month at 6: 00 pm.

  • The Cemetery Board meets Quarterly (January, April, July and Oct.) on the 2nd Wednesday of that month.

  • The Community Affairs Board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m.

  • The HIAP Board meets quarterly (or more frequently if needed).

  • The Library Board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

  • The Lodgers' Tax Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m.

  • The Planning Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m.

  • The Organizational Utilities Board meets quarterly (January, April, July and October) on the first Thursday of that month.

  • The Plan Implementation Task Force Board meets usually on the first Tuesday of the month.  The meetings are held either bi-monthly or quarterly as needed.

All Boards, except the Library Board, meet either in the Commission Chambers or in Conference Rooms A & B at City Hall,
300 N. Turner. The Library Board meets at the Hobbs Public Library, 509 E. Shipp.

Special meetings, which also are announced at least 24 hours in advance to the public, may be called at any time by the Mayor or four or more Commissioners. Work sessions may be called so that the Mayor and Commission may study problems or examine issues. The Commission and Advisory Boards must have a quorum of 4 members in order to commence with a meeting.  All meetings are open to the public.

What is the procedure for Commission Meetings?

The order of business is as follows:

  • Roll Call

  • Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation

  • Approval of Minutes

  • List of Accounts

  • Bids

  • Discussion

  • Ordinances & Resolutions

  • Emergency Hearings

  • Communications from Citizens

  • Adjournment

Where can I get meeting agendas?

Commission agendas are posted by Fridays at City Hall. All Advisory Boards post agendas a week before the scheduled meeting respectfully. All agendas are available on the City Web Site.

Can the public speak at any of these meetings?

Yes.  All public meetings have a 'Communication From Citizens' portion set in the agenda. During this portion the citizen is not limited to items on the agenda and may bring up any topic at this set time.

How do I view the minutes from the meetings?

The minutes for all meetings are to be available to the public within 10 working days of the meeting.  A copy of the minutes can be viewed at the City Clerks office during regular business hours or can also be viewed on the City Web Site.
